Penis Traction – Not Only for Enlargement

Peyronie's disease

When a medical treatment is used for something other than which it was developed, it’s referred to as ‘off label use’. In some cases, the drug or therapy is simply used without any change and other times, the original formula is tweaked to be more effective at its new found use. The best example of this is Viagra. Before it became the infamous “little blue pill” the drug, originally called Sildenafil, was developed to help treat hypertension, angina and other heart related conditions. During testing, researchers found it wasn’t especially good at lowering blood pressure, but it did give participants the side effect of pronounced erections. In the late 1990s, the drug was re-branded Viagra and released as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Penis enlargement devices are another, and sometimes surprising, example of this principle. Although the devices were originally designed simply to help increase the length of the penis, their design has also been able to help men suffering with a condition known as Peyrione’s Disease. For some men, the condition is something they’ve dealt with all their lives, others don’t have problems with it until later. The cause is a build-up of plaque or scar tissue within the tissue of the penis itself, which can happen before birth or over time if men engage in sex acts which cause the penis to bump up against something with force. While most men have experienced a trauma to the penis during vigorous sex once or twice, others have it happen so often that a build-up of scar tissue actually brings on the condition.

The condition results in a penis which is curved or has a misshapen appearance. This abnormality in appearance is usually most prominent when erect, though it also can be evidence in the penis’ flaccid state. Aside from the aesthetic problem, the curvature can cause discomfort or increased pain for men as they become erect since the scar tissue or plaque pulls on the connective tissues. For some men this can result in problems achieving or maintaining an erection as well as problems with delayed or even premature ejaculation.

Treatment options for Peyrione’s Disease vary depending on the severity of the case and the patient. Many men have found relief by using a penis traction device in order to slowly realign the penis. This is done by using the device in the same way most men would use for enlargement but without adding the lengthening tension over time. Essentially, the penis traction device simply keeps the penis in one stable angle in order to encourage the tissues to realign. This process is helped along by the use of warm, deep tissue massages before using the device as well as massage therapy afterwards in order to encourage more effective healing.

Other treatment options for Peyrione’s Disease include some pharmaceutical options as well as corrective surgery. In mild cases, the condition can actually be treated by simply giving the penis time to heal and both medication and surgical options are reserved for extreme cases or cases in which no improvement takes place within 12 to 24 months. Using a penis traction device offers a happy medium between these extremes. It also gives men the opportunity to address the issue on their own, particularly if the condition is fairly mild. Using this type of device has the added benefit of naturally lengthening the penis since the curvature will be corrected, thereby making the penis effectively longer.

Off label uses for medications and other treatments is a fairly common occurrence, even when we don’t realize it. For men struggling with a Peyrione’s Disease, penis traction devices can offer a way to treat the condition effectively without serious or invasive medical intervention. For men who have had the condition since birth, this can mean finally gaining the confidence and relief they need to truly enjoy their sex life to the fullest.
